Penang, Malaysia* – The inaugural Penang Digital Creative Week (PDCW) concluded
successfully, marking a pivotal moment for Penang’s burgeoning creative industry. Organized
by Digital Penang, the event showcased the region’s growing significance as a hub for digital
content creation and technological innovation within the creative sector.
PDCW aimed to catalyze the development of the youth and startup creative industry ecosystem
in Malaysia. The event underscored the importance of fostering a collaborative environment
where creative minds can thrive, bringing together a vibrant community of startup founders,
creatives, and industry experts.
With 24 exhibitors, including nine PDCW-supported projects and 11 expert speakers, the event
delved into diverse topics within the creative industry. Supported by 18 partners such as MDEC
and Alliance Bank, which sponsored the event’s lucky draw prizes, PDCW highlighted the
robust network backing Penang’s creative sector.
Over two days, more than 222 attendees engaged in interactive exhibitions, presentations, and
workshops, showcasing the potential of local creative projects. A notable highlight was the
successful commercialization of a VR solution for interior design, which sold its Minimum Viable
Product (MVP) to its first customer, demonstrating the market readiness of innovations
nurtured within this ecosystem.
The event also attracted interest from potential collaborators, including a major creative
industry body in advertising, signaling a promising future for partnerships and industry growth.
As PDCW 2024 concluded, the excitement and optimism for Penang’s creative industry
remained high. Digital Penang is set to build on the success of this event, continuing to support
and elevate creative talents, and positioning Penang as an attractive hub for the creative
industry and innovators.
