GEORGE TOWN, Nov 1 – The Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia-Penang was officially launched today at Gurney Paragon Mall, marking another milestone in the nationwide campaign aimed at reviving domestic tourism and celebrating Malaysia’s cultural richness.
The event was officiated by Tourism Malaysia Deputy Chairman Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, who emphasised the importance of community-driven tourism in strengthening unity and supporting the national economy.
The three-day carnival, jointly organised by Tourism Malaysia and Star Media Group, carries the theme “Explore. Experience. Excite.” highlighting efforts to encourage Malaysians to rediscover the country’s diverse attractions through food, culture, and creative experiences.

In his speech, Dato’ Yeoh said the Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia served as a platform to celebrate Malaysia’s culture, heritage and creativity while empowering local communities to participate in tourism-related activities.
“Penang’s unique blend of heritage, art and innovation makes it the perfect destination to carry this message forward. As we march towards Visit Malaysia 2026, let us continue to support local travel, empower communities and celebrate the diversity that makes our country special,” he said.
He also noted that domestic tourism has shown remarkable growth, with 260.1 million domestic visitors recorded in 2024, generating RM106.7 billion in tourism expenditure, a 25.7 per cent increase compared with the previous year. The positive momentum continued in the first quarter of 2025, with 69.7 million domestic visitors, representing an 18.9 per cent growth.
Meanwhile, Star Media Group Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chan Seng Fatt, said the partnership reflects the group’s commitment to promoting Malaysian tourism through impactful storytelling and nationwide outreach.
“Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia is about rediscovering our country, our culture, our food and hidden gems in our own backyard. We are proud to partner with Tourism Malaysia in connecting Malaysians through shared stories and experiences that inspire pride and togetherness,” he said.
The carnival features a range of activities, including traditional performances, local cuisine showcases, artisanal crafts, and exclusive travel promotions. Visitors can also look forward to meet-and-greet sessions with popular local talents such as Sarah Suhairi and Wani Kayrie.
The Penang edition of the carnival follows successful runs in Kuantan, Klang Valley and Sarawak, continuing its mission to promote domestic travel while celebrating Malaysia’s cultural heritage.
The event is open to the public with free admission until Sunday (Nov 2), inviting families, youth and local communities to experience the best of Malaysian culture and tourism.
