BANGKOK: During China’s Golden Week, which takes place from October 1 to 7, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) projects that 132,000 and 183,000 Chinese visitors will arrive in Thailand.
According to TAT, the estimated number of arrivals is 57-144% higher than for the same period in the previous year. It also stated that the visitors are expected to earn 3.71 to 5.18 billion baht in revenue over the period, which represents a growth of 58-121% year over year.
The government stated that a typical Chinese visitor to Thailand during Golden Week would spend roughly 6,300 baht daily and remain for up to six days. The Chinese also frequently travel in large groups of about thirteen persons.
TAT estimated a 250% increase in Chinese tourists’ flight bookings from October 1–7. Some have entered the nation since September 28 to avoid crowds during the extended holidays, it was added.
Scheduled flights from China to six international airports in Thailand rose to 1,097 from October 1–7, a 70% year-over-year increase. Out of these flights, Beijing accounts for 7%, Guangzhou for 15%, Chengdu and Kunming for 8%, and Shanghai for 19%.
The TAT has organized multiple marketing efforts in China and Thailand to draw Chinese tourists to Thailand.
The authorities also anticipated that Singaporean superstar JJ Lin’s world tour, which begins in Bangkok on October 5, would include a stop in Thailand.
With the commencement of the 30-day stay mutual permanent visa exemption between Thailand and China on March 1, the number of Chinese visitors in Thailand has surged 122% annually to 5.1 million as of September 22. – The Nation/ANN
