A bomb threat caused the Tourism Ministry to evacuate; the package turned out to be fake.

KUALA LUMPUR: It has been verified that the suspicious item that was received earlier on Wednesday, June 5, at the headquarters of the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry here is a phoney “bomb”.

Speaking to reporters on the scene, Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Asmadi Abdul Aziz stated that although the item had a bomb-like appearance, it was ultimately determined to be a fake following extensive inspections.

“A timer and PVC pipe were used to make it. Despite looking authentic, we have discovered that it is a phoney explosive. The box arrived on the 14th floor at 2.45 pm, having been despatched by courier at 11:19 am.

“The bomb squad was then called, as well as bomb-sniffing dogs,” according to him.

Packages intended for the minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, should follow SOPs, according to ACP Asmadi, who stated that the police have warned the building’s administration of this.

He clarified that while some employees had been let to leave for the day, others had been permitted to re-enter the facility.

Based on initial inquiries, the item originated from a Sungai Buloh branch office of a courier business.

Additionally, we have video footage of the man who made the delivery. We would also like to know why the delivery guy in the video shook the box and other things.

“So far, there are no threatening letters,” he stated.

ACP Asmadi asked anyone with knowledge to get in touch with the local police department.
