PENANG – Global LED lighting leader Dialight has reinforced its long-term commitment to Penang with the official opening of its expanded manufacturing facility in the Prai Industrial Area yesterday morning, even as the company navigates global economic uncertainties and the potential impact of US tariffs.
The ceremony was officiated by Penang’s Deputy Chief Minister II, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, alongside Dialight Group Chief Executive Officer Steve Blair, Director Dr. Ilamaran Elangkathir, Asia Pacific MD/VP of Operations Malcolm Lee, and CEO Rizwan Ahmad.
Jagdeep hailed the company’s continued investment in the state, noting Penang’s strong position as a hub for high-value manufacturing.

“Although small in size, Penang contributes about eight per cent of the world’s backend semiconductor output. We have the right talent and a hardworking workforce, making us a premier choice for investors in the region,” he said, adding that the state recorded RM7.3 billion in approved projects in 2025, with RM6.7 billion secured in the first quarter alone, 79 per cent of which came from the electrical and electronics sector.
Blair reaffirmed that Penang remains a vital part of Dialight’s global operations, despite the headwinds posed by rising export costs in certain markets.
“If you had asked me 18 months ago about tariffs, I would have said we remained committed to Penang, and today, I can say we are very committed. We will adjust strategically to meet new expectations while ensuring we deliver the best value to our customers,” he said.
The new 57,000 sq ft facility, equipped with modern manufacturing capabilities, will support Dialight’s expansion in optoelectronics production, enabling the company to consolidate operations closer to end-users and sidestep additional costs introduced by global tariffs.
Dr. Ilamaran expressed appreciation to both state and federal agencies for their support in completing the facility on schedule, while Blair also highlighted the role of the Dialight Foundation in giving back to local communities.
Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Dialight operates globally with offices and manufacturing facilities in the UK, US, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, UAE, and Penang, producing solid-state LED lighting and optoelectronics solutions for industrial and construction sectors worldwide.
