Johor govt committed to positioning the state as a leading sports tourism destination – exco

MALAYSIA- According to State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurship, and Cooperative Development Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, the Johor state government is dedicated to establishing the region as a premier sports tourism destination by planning several internationally renowned events for this year.

The Ironman endurance race in Desaru, Kota Tinggi, is slated for this month, he added. “The state government, through the State Sports Council and KPRJ Sports, will also organise international cycling events,” he said.

“This year, for the first time, these cycling events will be organized exclusively by the state government, unlike previous years when they were held in conjunction with Letape Malaysia,” he stated during a news conference following today’s 10th Johor Malaysian Youth Movement (YMM) charity run.

Brevia Pan Woon Shien, the president of YMM, was also present.

He added that, in cooperation with the city councils of Iskandar Puteri and Johor Baru, they would be hosting the 21-kilometer Johor Marathon in August.

With almost 1,000 participants, the YMM Charity Run was a great success in raising RM48,000 in registration fees. This money will be used for volunteer training programs and philanthropic projects around Johor – Bernama
