“Currently, the 604, Ting Xiang, Xiao Hong, Khun Poh, Musang King, and Black Thorn varieties have begun to fall from the trees.

“The season has just started, with the first wave of durian harvest expected to last until early June.

“The second wave is anticipated to run from mid-June to July, and the third wave expected from August to September,” he said in his speech at the Penang Durian Season: Fragrance in the Air launching, today.

He added that each variety offers a distinct flavor and aroma, making Penang a must-visit destination for any durian enthusiasts during its peak season starting from end of May till August.

Apart from its rich, creamy texture and complex flavors, he said that the king of fruits has fascinating facts, where it contains monosaturated fats which help fight bad cholesterol levels.

He added that it is also used as traditional soups, sauces and curries that are made using durian flesh in the country.
