Tourism Administration launches ‘Taiwan Pass’

The “Taiwan Pass,” a limited-edition round-the-island travel package priced at NT$2,800 for two passengers, was introduced by the Tourism Administration on Monday.

According to the agency, the package, which combines services provided by Taiwan Railway Corp. with local metro systems and tourist buses, will be available until September 30.

Taiwan Pass allows travellers, either alone or with a partner, to travel on Taiwan Railways trains an unlimited number of times over five days. It is available to both citizens of Taiwan and foreign countries.

A two-day Taipei FunPass, round-trip tickets on the Taoyuan Metro, a 48-hour tourist pass for the Taichung Metro, or a two-day pass for the Kaohsiung Metro, which incorporates the city’s light rail service, are other options available to visitors.

Additionally, round-trip tickets to four Taiwan Tourist Shuttle routes are available to visitors: the picturesque regions in the Kenting (墾丁) area of Pingtung County, the Cingjing Farm (清境農場) in Nantou County, or Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) in Chiayi County.

The Taiwan Pass must be used by November 30 and purchased at approved retailers, such as Klook or Lion Travel, according to the Tourism Administration.

To activate their passes, travellers can download the Taiwan Pass mobile app and enter the redemption code they receive from the retailers, according to the app.

However, to redeem their Taiwan Railways service and support the economic recovery of eastern Taiwan in the wake of the massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Hualien County on April 3, passengers will need to schedule a trip between Toucheng (頭城) and Dawu (大武) stations on the Eastern Line.

It stated that the train journeys can be scheduled at any of the eighteen authorized train stations using the Taiwan Pass App.
