IPOH: Since Visit Melaka Year (VMM 2024) and Visit Perak Year (2024) are happening simultaneously, it is inappropriate to compare their liveliness.
According to Tourism Perak CEO Nurmalis Musa, many people are complaining that TMP 2024 isn’t well-promoted or engaging enough.
“We’re constantly being compared to Melaka. The problem is that Perak has twelve districts and fifteen local authorities, whereas Melaka has only four districts and three.
“Perak is the second-largest state in Peninsular Malaysia, and we have more districts.
“We make every effort to incorporate all districts in our programs and activities. “But Melaka is highly centralized, with most events taking place only in Bandar Hilir,” she remarked when approached at her Jalan Teh Hawa office.
According to the state head of the Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee Loh Sze Yee, Perak hopes to bring in eight million domestic visitors in conjunction with TMP 2024. Yee made this announcement on April 5.
As part of the state’s post-Covid-19 rebuilding process, Loh is hopeful that this goal can be met thanks to the engaging programs being offered at various tourism destinations across the state.
Nurmalis said that 3.6 million people visited Perak from January through June of this year.
She is optimistic that the eight million tourists and visitors target for TMP 2024 may be reached through a variety of engaging programs and activities scheduled for the remaining five months of the year.
“Data gathered from local government and Tourism Perak for January through June of this year shows a 72% rise over the same period last year.
“From January to June of this year, 3,611,385 tourists were registered, up from 2,099,335 during the same time previous year.
“This data excludes hotel accommodations, and if those figures are included, I strongly believe we can achieve our target,” she stated.
She continued by saying that the Immigration Department’s statistics on tourist arrivals and departures through land and air gates show that 513,536 domestic visitors and 192,558 foreign visitors were registered in the first five months of this year.
The majority of foreign visitors are from Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Thailand, and Australia.
“Among the 12 districts in Perak, Manjung received the highest number of visitors with 1,367,248, followed by Kinta (843,265), Larut, Matang and Selama (582,037), Batang Padang (245,334), Kerian (151,926), Kampar (136,260), Hulu Perak (123,810), Kuala Kangsar (61,972), Hilir Perak (37,739), Perak Tengah (31,495), Bagan Datuk (18,878), and Muallim (11,421),” she stated.
