Penang, Malaysia – In an ambitious move to further boost Penang’s tourism industry, the Penang State Executive Council for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE) announced the launch of multilingual travel brochures covering 14 languages. These brochures are part of a broader initiative to cater to Penang’s increasingly international visitor base, reflecting the island’s cultural diversity and linguistic inclusivity.
YB Wong Hon Wai, the Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, unveiled the initiative, emphasizing Penang’s unique multilingual proficiency. He highlighted the island’s global appeal, stating, “Penang is known worldwide for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and vibrant festivals. The new brochures, available in languages ranging from English and Mandarin to Spanish and German, will enhance the travel experience for visitors from around the globe.”
The brochures offer a comprehensive guide to Penang’s top attractions, including its street art, culinary experiences, and eco-tourism activities. Designed to provide seamless communication, they serve as a vital tool for hotels, travel agencies, and restaurants to bridge communication gaps with international tourists.

In addition to the brochure launch, YB Wong Hon Wai also celebrated Penang’s growing international flight network. From January to June 2024, Penang International Airport recorded a 17.25% increase in international flights, with new routes to Xiamen, Dubai, and Bangkok among the latest additions. Cruise tourism is also rising, with world-class vessels like Costa Deliziosa and Serenade of the Seas making inaugural visits to Penang.

As Penang continues to expand its infrastructure with projects like the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Penang Hill Cable Car, the state is set to become even more accessible. With new hotels and convention centres on the horizon, Penang aims to strengthen its position as a premier global tourist destination.
The launch of the multilingual brochures and the expansion of Penang’s connectivity marks a significant step forward in enhancing the island’s appeal, both as a cultural hub and a tourism powerhouse.
