Fraser’s Hill destined for greater heights in tourism

Fraser’s Hill: Pahang executive councillor Leong Yu Man said that Fraser’s Hill, one of the three highland jewels in the state after Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands, will be developed into an international tourist destination to increase tourism and revenue for the state and nation.

According to Leong, there are plans to upgrade public spaces and offer cosy, high-quality lodging.

According to her, one of these proposals is to upgrade the narrow road that leads from the Gap to Fraser’s Hill, which is 4,800 feet above sea level.

” We are in discussion with the state and federal governments to initiate this multi-million ringgit move, so that larger tour buses can safely access Fraser’s Hill and attract a larger number of tourists for wedding packages and business conferences “, she said.

“Pahang’s tourism board will use aggressive marketing techniques to plan more events and promotions here.

However, for sustainable tourism with little environmental impact, careful planning is essential to find a balance between development and preservation of biodiversity, peace, and natural habitats for flora and animals.

Leong stated that Fraser’s Hill had a lot of potential for development because of its cool climate and natural beauty.

She stated that the endeavour would need the assistance and collaboration of all stakeholders, including the local community and investors, at the Wyndham Garden Shahzan Fraser’s Hill grand opening, which was presided over by Pahang’s Sultan, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

With better facilities, she was sure Fraser’s Hill would draw more tourists than the 48,687 who came through its doors the previous year.

Leong predicted that increased employment prospects, particularly for farmers and artisans, would result from the local community’s active participation in various tourism activities.

From October 8 to 10, Fraser’s Hill will be showcased at the 2024 Malaysia International Tourism Expo in Kuantan, Pahang.

To inform and raise awareness about the value of nature and cultural preservation among visitors and the local community, we will also work with digital and social media platforms like GoTiFi, she added.

The sultan had demanded that Fraser’s Hill maintain its pristine surroundings, refrain from environmental contamination, maintain the architectural appeal of the structures, and maintain its natural visual splendour of paths and waterfalls.

RM6 million in renovations and rebranding

Omar Mohan Naresh, president and group CEO of Hospitality 360, stated that TAS Industries, the hotel’s owner, had spent RM6 million renovating and rebranding the previous Shahzan Inn to become a part of the 95-country Wyndham Hotels network.

According to him, the rebranding was a calculated decision to establish connections with more than 50,000 travel agencies worldwide.

Aware of the effects of climate change, we intend to implement energy-saving strategies that will boost local biodiversity, use electric vehicles to cut down on carbon emissions, harness solar energy, and implement waste reduction programs that use sustainable materials.

The attractions and history of the hill

Fraser’s Hill gained national attention on October 7, 1951, when communist terrorists shot and killed Henry Gurney, the British high commissioner to Malaya.

The high commissioner drove his Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith with his wife, Lady Isabel Lowther Weir, private secretary DJ Staples, and his Malayan chauffeur while Gurney and his group were travelling to Fraser’s Hill for a conference.

The colonial-style clock tower, Lady Guillemard Park, and historic structures like the 1919 police station and post office are some of Fraser’s Hill’s most notable features.

It provides nine holes of golf, horseback riding, a bird interpretation centre, Jeriau waterfall, a lookout point, bird watching, and seven exhilarating trekking trails. Pedal boating is also available at Allan’s Water – FMT
