MALAYSIA -According to Anthony Loke, the federal government would always welcome any airline businesses that wish to offer international flights and operate out of the nation’s airports.
The minister of transportation stated that the government will not have any difficulties because all of the nation’s airports have adequate amenities.
“The decision to offer foreign flights rests with the airline business operators. That is not problematic for the government.
Since we’ve been following an open policy, the government won’t block them from moving forward.
“But the operators have to get the go-ahead from the appropriate authorities first,” he stated at today’s press conference.
Speaking at a news conference following the start of the Sultan Ismail Petra airport expansion project today, Loke stated that the operators needed permission from both the Malaysian Aviation Commission and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (Mavcom).
He noted that as part of the Sultan Ismail Petra airport project, the government has also decided to add 400 meters to the runway.
“During a recent visit to the airport, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the government had decided to expand the runway from 2,400 meters to 2,800 meters.
“This will help bring more flights to the airport” he stated.
He claimed that during their most recent meeting, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin had demanded this action.
