Johor has great potential to be a major tourist destination in Malaysia, says MB

MALAYSIA- As per Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi , Johor boasts numerous tourist destinations with immense potential, something the state can be proud of.

The Mentri Besar remarked that a recent social media video cast doubt on the state’s tourism industry and claimed Johor lacked any noteworthy tourist destinations.

The film made clear how dull Johor is because so many of the places are closed. We welcome such opinions with wide arms.

In response to Anuar Abd Manap (BN-Pemanis), Azizul Bachok (BN-Tiram), Datuk Pandak Ahmad (BN-Kota Iskandar), Datuk Mohamad Najib Samuri (BN-Parit Yaani), Amira Aisya Abd Aziz (Muda-Puteri Wangsa), Liow Cai Tung (PH-Johor Jaya), and Ng Yak How (PH-Bentayan), he remarked, “But let me share that Johor has various treasures and tourist centres with good potential and can be proud of.”

According to Onn Hafiz, Johor boasts world-class islands, numerous worldwide ecotourism destinations, theme parks, museums, galleries, and six national parks.

He claimed that while this demonstrated Johor’s abundance of tourism offerings, it has to be seen if these attractions live up to visitor expectations.

“The answer is not yet if we answer this question with an open mind,” he stated.

Onn Hafiz said that the government recently hosted a workshop on tourism empowerment, during which they got input on issues with rural broadband infrastructure, poorly connected public transportation, and unwelcoming roads for tourists.

As a result, to ensure the success of the Visit Johor Year 2026 agenda, the state government intends to present two primary strategies. First, we’re going to modernize the current tourism infrastructure.

He stated, “Once the infrastructure has been upgraded, we will move to promote all these tourism products,” and mentioned that RM67.6 million had been set aside for this reason in the state budget for 2024.

The Mentri Besar also stated that four tourism upgrading projects would be finished by the following year, while ten tourism development projects would be finished this year.

He announced the implementation of six marketing and promotion efforts by the state administration, which included programs to promote tourism both domestically and internationally.

“Johor has a lot of promise for tourism. The state can provide visitors with a wide range of possibilities because of its stunning natural surroundings, rich cultural legacy, and numerous other tourist attractions.

He went on, “I am sure the state can become a major tourist destination in Malaysia if the two strategies can be implemented properly and thoroughly.”
