MAG Strengthens Langkawi’s Role as Strategic Tourism and Economic Gateway

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has reaffirmed Langkawi’s position as a vital gateway for tourism and economic growth, underscoring the national carrier’s commitment to promoting Malaysia globally.

As one of Malaysia Airlines’ most iconic leisure destinations, Langkawi continues to play a pivotal role in the airline’s network. Currently, the group operates 56 weekly flights connecting the island to major cities domestically and abroad, reinforcing its strategic importance in regional tourism.

“Malaysia is more than just a destination—it is a story of rich culture, warm hospitality, and immense global potential,” said MAG’s Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines, Dersenish Aresandiran. “As the national carrier, Malaysia Airlines carries that story across continents, serving as both a bridge between nations and a proud ambassador of our nation’s values.”

Reinforcing this vision, MAG recently hosted the second edition of its flagship Trade Elevation Summit (TES) in Langkawi, in collaboration with the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA).

The high-level gathering welcomed over 300 delegates—including airline representatives, trade partners, and stakeholders from 68 cities worldwide—offering a powerful platform for strategic engagement.

“The decision to host this summit in Langkawi reflects our long-standing commitment to nurturing Malaysia’s key tourism hubs and aligning with national aspirations,” Dersenish said. “It’s part of our broader effort to build strong foundations through enhanced connectivity, innovative products, digital transformation, and exceptional customer experiences.”

He added that initiatives such as the Bonus Side Trip programme are among the many ways MAG is enriching travel offerings and positioning Malaysia Airlines as the preferred carrier in the region.

With the road to Visit Malaysia Year 2026 firmly in focus, Dersenish said the airline is committed to playing a leadership role in promoting Malaysia as a world-class travel destination.

“Langkawi is not just a stop on our network—it’s a symbol of our vision to elevate Malaysia’s tourism potential to greater heights,” he said.
