TASHKENT, July 29 — A Malaysian tourism delegation comprising representatives from over 25 travel companies has completed a working visit to Uzbekistan, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.
The week-long visit, which covered the regions of Jizzakh, Samarkand, Bukhara, and the capital city Tashkent, was organised through the joint efforts of the Uzbekistan State Committee for Tourism and the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia.
Leading the delegation were senior figures from key industry bodies, including the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), the Association of Bumiputera Tourism Operating Companies of Malaysia (Bumitra), and the Association of Umrah and Hajj Tourism Agencies (PAPUH).
Malaysian actress and television host Adrea Abdullah was also part of the delegation, joining the visit at the invitation of the Uzbek authorities.
In a statement, the Uzbek Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said the visit provided a platform for both sides to explore opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the area of Islamic tourism and heritage-based travel.
A series of government-to-business (G2B) and business-to-business (B2B) meetings was held throughout the visit, allowing Malaysian and Uzbek tour operators to discuss potential partnerships and ways to increase tourist arrivals from Malaysia to Uzbekistan.
“The visit provided the Malaysian delegation with a unique opportunity to explore Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage, Islamic pilgrimage sites, and growing tourism infrastructure,” the embassy said.
Delegates also had the opportunity to experience Uzbekistan Airways’ direct service between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent, which is seen as a key link to strengthening travel and business exchanges.
The visit follows the official trip to Malaysia by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in February, during which both countries agreed to boost cooperation in several areas, including tourism.
According to the embassy, the latest mission marks a continued commitment by both nations to foster stronger people-to-people ties and promote sustainable tourism development.
