New Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib Opens State Legislative Assembly

GEORGE TOWN, May 17 — The Penang State Legislative Assembly convened its latest session today with a formal opening by the newly appointed Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, marking his first official duty since assuming the ceremonial post on May 1.

The ceremony, held at the State Assembly building on Lebuh Light, began with Tun Ramli inspecting a guard of honour, followed by the rendition of the national and state anthems. The event was attended by key state figures, including Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang.

A formal address by Tun Ramli and a group photo session with state leaders highlighted the ceremonial proceedings. Road closures were enforced from 8am to 11am in the vicinity to facilitate the event.

Tun Ramli, a former Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, is the ninth individual to hold the position of Penang Governor.

The assembly sitting is scheduled to run for two weeks, during which state lawmakers from across the political spectrum will engage in debates, table motions, and deliberate on development-focused budget allocations – The Star
