Penang, Langkawi among Asia’s Top 10 Islands in Condé Nast Traveler 2025 Awards

GEORGE TOWN: Penang has once again earned global recognition after being named one of the Top 10 Best Islands in Asia 2025 by the prestigious U.S. travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveler.

The annual Readers’ Choice Awards, known for celebrating the world’s most beloved travel destinations, placed Penang alongside Langkawi as Malaysia’s representatives on the list, a testament to the country’s growing reputation as a premier island destination.

Penang, ranked 10th, continues to captivate visitors with its remarkable blend of culture, history, and natural beauty. From the bustling heritage streets of George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the scenic retreats of Batu Feringghi and Penang Hill, the island offers a distinctive experience that balances old-world charm with modern vibrancy.

Visitors are drawn to Penang’s diverse offerings, from its famed street food and colonial-era architecture to its thriving arts scene and lush green spaces such as the Penang Botanic Gardens. The island’s multicultural character and warm hospitality have long made it a favourite among both local and international travellers.

Topping this year’s list is Bali, followed by Lombok and Sri Lanka, with other destinations including Boracay, Koh Lanta, Koh Chang, Langkawi, Phuket, and Koh Samui.

Tourism industry observers say the recognition reaffirms Malaysia’s position as a key player in the regional travel scene ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

With its rich heritage, culinary excellence, and picturesque landscapes, Penang continues to shine as one of Asia’s must-visit islands where history, culture, and natural beauty meet in perfect harmony.
