George Town, Penang (Dec 23)—Penang’s 2025 outlook is set for a vibrant future, says Peter Lo, Head of House at George Penang by the Crest Collection.
Lo said the vibrant outlook is driven by foreign arrivals, infrastructure developments, and a strategic push to increase tourism spending.
However, Lo said that stakeholders should not only focus on tourist arrivals but also prioritise enhancing tourism spending in the state.
“Everybody wants to see tourism spend in Penang,” Lo stated, comparing Malaysia’s performance to that of neighbouring Thailand, which attracts a similar number of tourists but reportedly achieves 30% higher tourism spending.
“This is an area where hoteliers, F&B players, and other stakeholders can step up by creating products and services that encourage visitors to spend more in Penang,” he said.
Lo also highlighted Penang’s unique appeal as a destination that inspires repeat visits.
“The good thing about Penang is, as you know, you always come back for more,” he remarked, emphasising the importance of evolving Penang’s tourism products to keep visitors engaged.
“So on this note, I urge all stakeholders and all industry players to focus more on enhancing the products and services that we are offering to our tourists and our visitors and also look at ways to drive tourism expenditures, tourism spend, you know, tourism receipts,” he added.
