Sabah tourism authorities following up on Chinese tourist paragliding incident says Liew

MALAYSIA- State Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Environment Datuk Christina Liew stated that investigations into the incident involving 64-year-old Chinese visitor Xue Dong Yuan in Lohan, Ranau, on April 22 are being conducted by her ministry’s Sabah Tourism Board (STB).

“I have given STB the go-ahead to investigate the case and take necessary action,” Liew stated in a statement on Tuesday, April 30.

Aboni Loong and Florence Gom from the STB, along with Ma Chong and Joanne Wong from the Chinese Consul General office, visited the patient at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) 1 on Monday, April 29, at around ten in the morning, according to STB.

She said that for the tour operator to take the appropriate steps, the STB has also gotten in touch with Flying Earth Travel Sdn Bhd.

To enhance communication between the patient’s family and Sabah ground handlers over compensation for the patient’s damage, Liew stated that the Chinese Consul General Office and STB provided translation services.

It further stated that the patient’s insurance company had made arrangements for them and a family member to travel by Shanghai Airlines on Tuesday to return to Hebei Province, China.

The event was made public after the traveller complained about a video that went viral on social media.
