PETALING JAYA: When will Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh be able to represent Perak as its ambassador?
Tourism Perak reportedly hopes to appoint the actress, who was born in Ipoh, as the state’s ambassador, according to the New Straits Times.
The chief executive officer of Tourism Perak, Nurmalis Musa, stated that negotiations with Yeoh are still ongoing.
Since Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh was born in Ipoh, we are still in negotiations with her to see how she can support us and what she can do.
She was quoted as adding, “She might be able to be our CSR (corporate social responsibility) ambassador, as she is also an avid environmentalist.”
According to Nurmalis, they spoke with Yeoh in March and are now waiting for her response.
She also mentioned that Yeoh and her management would be having several talks with the state chairman of the Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee, Loh Sze Yee.
“There will be discussions with her management, as Loh is determined to make this happen,” Nurmalis said, adding that Yeoh’s appointment as the Perak Tourism ambassador would aid in promoting Iph and Perak to a global audience.
Yeoh was formerly a beauty queen who rose to fame internationally after beginning her career in a string of Hong Kong films in the 1990s. She has acted in a variety of movies and roles; she has also had multiple award nominations and wins.
Her early work in English-language films included the 1997 James Bond blockbuster Tomorrow Never Dies, for which she received widespread praise, and the 2000 film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which earned her a nomination for the British Academy Blockbuster Awards (BAFTA).
At the 95th Academy Awards in 2023, she was awarded the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the comedy-drama “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
