Vietjet Set to Receive Up to 10 New Aircraft by Year-End, Bolstering Fleet Amid Global Aviation Challenges

Kuala Lumpur, 9 August 2024 – In a significant move to address rising travel demand and global aircraft shortages, Vietjet has announced plans to receive up to 10 new aircraft by the end of 2024. This expansion is poised to enhance the airline’s already leading modern fleet, aligning with its ambitious growth strategy and further improving passenger experiences across its extensive network of domestic and international routes.

Beginning in August 2024, Vietjet will start receiving deliveries of the latest A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) models from Airbus. Vietjet made history in 2019 as the world’s first carrier to operate the ACF model. The A321neo ACF is renowned for its improved cabin design, offering passengers standard seat dimensions and optimal spacing, resulting in a more comfortable in-flight experience. The aircraft also stands out for its environmental benefits, delivering at least 16% fuel savings, reducing noise by up to 75%, and cutting emissions by 50%.

In addition to expanding its narrow-body fleet, Vietjet has recently placed a firm order with Airbus for 20 new-generation wide-body A330neo (A330-900) aircraft, valued at $7.4 billion (approximately RM 33.05 billion). These state-of-the-art aircraft will soon be deployed on longer-haul routes, providing travellers with the highest levels of safety, comfort, and advanced in-flight amenities.

Currently operating a fleet of over 100 aircraft, including models such as the A320, A321ceo, A321neo, A321neo ACF, and A330, Vietjet is committed to environmental sustainability to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The airline has already flown over 200 million passengers, including millions who experienced air travel for the first time.

Vietjet’s financial performance has also been strong, with the airline serving 13.1 million passengers and operating 70,154 safe flights in the first half of 2024. Consolidated revenue for the period reached VND34.016 trillion (approximately RM 6.04 billion), with a pre-tax profit of VND1.311 trillion (approximately RM 232.86 million), marking year-over-year increases of 15% and 433% respectively. These figures even exceeded the airline’s H1/2024 profit target by 21%. Vietjet also contributed VND3.687 trillion (approximately RM 654.88 million) in direct and indirect taxes and fees.

The anticipated arrival of 10 new aircraft in the latter half of 2024 will enable Vietjet to further expand its network both within Vietnam and internationally. This follows the airline’s recent additions of new destinations in Australia, India, China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, and Cambodia. The daily service connecting Kuala Lumpur with Ho Chi Minh City offers Malaysian travellers convenient transit options to explore Vietnam’s top destinations and other popular international tourist spots.

With a professional and dedicated crew, Vietjet is well-positioned to meet the growing demands of travellers, providing them with excellent flying experiences. The airline’s safe and reliable flights continue to connect countries, cultures, and continents, fostering economic development, cultural exchange, and tourism.
