M’sia to see more Chinese tourists during golden week

MALAYSIA- The nation anticipates a surge in tourists over China’s Labor Day golden week, according to Manoharan Periasamy, director-general of Tourism Malaysia.

Following National Day and Chinese New Year celebrations, the Labor Day golden week falls on May 1st–5th. It is one of China’s three main holidays.

He stated that at that time, Tourism Malaysia anticipates a 30% rise in visitors over 2023.

“According to data from our partners, there has been a significant surge in reservations for trips to Malaysia over the Golden Week.

He stated, “This demonstrates that visitor support and interest have grown since COVID-19.”

But he withheld the anticipated numbers for the golden week.

According to him, Chinese travellers typically combine their visits to Singapore and Malaysia.

“We benefit from their short stays in Singapore, where they spend no more than three nights before returning to Malaysia,” he stated following yesterday’s signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a three-year collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and Malaysian Aviation Group.

Manoharan expressed optimism that the nation will be able to meet its goal of welcoming five million Chinese tourists this year.

He mentioned that a lot of Chinese travellers are starting to favour and gravitate towards Tawau in Sabah.

“A lot of chartered flights from second-tier cities like Nanjing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen go there directly right now.”
