From Local Legacy to Global Ambition: MGJE 2025 Heralds a Golden Era for Malaysia’s Jewellery Industry

PENANG, May 9, 2025 — Malaysia’s gold and jewellery industry is stepping confidently onto the global stage with the grand opening of the Malaysia Gold & Jewellery Expo (MGJE) 2025, held at the SPICE Convention Centre in Penang.

Once a local event known as the PWGS Gold Expo, MGJE has evolved into a national-level platform backed by the Penang Wholesalers and Goldsmiths Association (PWGS) and the Malaysia Gold Association (MGA), now attracting international attention.

MGJE 2025 brings together over 150 esteemed exhibitors from 12 countries, covering 4,500 square meters of exhibition space, and is expected to draw more than 10,000 visitors. The event showcases a dynamic mix of artisanal craftsmanship, cutting-edge manufacturing, trend outlooks, and business networking opportunities — offering a comprehensive look at the evolving global jewellery trade.

At the opening ceremony, Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow highlighted the state’s commitment to supporting the industry amid shifting global trends. “Where some see volatility, we in Penang see opportunity,” he said, pointing to rising global gold prices and Penang’s role as a key player in Malaysia’s manufacturing output.

This year’s MGJE features high-profile attractions such as the MGJE Raffle Draw, stage contests, and a Women Entrepreneurs Forum celebrating female leaders in the traditionally male-dominated jewellery sector. Fashion brand Doublewoot will join the forum to spotlight the intersection of fashion, business, and precious metals.

A special highlight includes Tian Si Jewellery receiving recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for unveiling the nation’s first 999 pure gold watch collection, and becoming the sole distributor of HIPINE gold watches in Malaysia.

International exhibitors from the UAE, China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Australia, and more make up roughly 25% of this year’s participants, reinforcing Penang’s reputation as a key meeting point in the global jewellery calendar. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, gold-related exports in Q1 2025 hit RM2.34 billion, up 9.76% from last year.

Supported by government and industry partners including PETACE, PCEB, MyCEB, MATRADE, and the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Associations of Malaysia.
