VIENTIANE: This week in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the third edition of the Cambodia-Laos tourist Business to Business (B2B) Forum and the Cambodia-Laos Joint Tourism Working Group on tourist collaboration was held.
Under the 2023–2024 action plan, the meeting identified and reviewed possible collaborative projects and activities to strengthen bilateral tourist cooperation.
Deputy Director General Phouthone Dalalom of Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism’s Tourism Marketing Department, Secretary of State Dr. Thok Sokhom of Cambodia, Deputy Governor Ing Kimleang of Siem Reap Province, and Director General of Tourism Development, International Cooperation Dr. Chuk Chumno attended the meeting.
Discussions were also held between business representatives from the two nations.
According to Phouthone, Laos and Cambodia have a long and tight relationship overall, but especially in the tourism industry.
The economies of Laos and Cambodia depend heavily on tourism. He claimed that it creates jobs for locals and brings in enormous sums of money used to further the development of the two nations.
The gathering provided an excellent chance for Cambodia and Laos to further their collaboration and discover additional avenues for implementing mutual tourism.
According to Mr. Phouthone, companies can establish cooperative trip programs and build beneficial contacts simultaneously.
“I think this meeting will be another important turning point in our relationship and further solidify collaboration in the tourism sector,” he continued.
The participants talked about how to effectively accomplish the objectives of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Action Plan on Tourism Cooperation for 2023-2024 and expressed gratitude for the ongoing tourism cooperation.
The four primary areas of collaboration in the action plan—travel facilitation and border crossing, human resource development and capacity building, marketing, and the development of tourism products and linkages—were approved by the tourism ministries of Cambodia and Laos. ANN/Vientiane Times
