PETALING JAYA: An IT system outage that has impacted other regions has impacted the check-in system of low-cost airline AirAsia.
Due to this, travellers now need to check in manually and face lengthy lineups at KLIA Terminal 2.
“An international IT problem affecting airlines globally is hurting our primary reservation and check-in system. Extended wait times and slower check-ins are possible, however we’re working hard to fix this.
AirAsia said in a brief statement today, “We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has been contacted by FMT for comment.
There were lengthy lineups at check-in desks due to technical issues with the low-cost carrier, as reported by several internet users on Facebook and X.
As of 2:42 PM, KLIA Terminal 2’s system was down, preventing travellers from completing self-check-ins, according to X user @AzriZidaneYusof.
“A large number of individuals waited in line at the counters and were not served unless their flights were about to depart,” he claimed.
According to Reuters, the main US airlines, media outlets, banks, and telecommunications corporations were all impacted by the system disruptions.
Less than an hour after Microsoft announced that the cloud services outage that had affected several low-cost carriers had been rectified, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines reportedly grounded their aircraft.
The significant technical issue also affected Australia’s national broadcaster and biggest international airport, according to AFP.
In addition, a technical issue prevented customers from purchasing tickets via the KLIA Ekspres train service’s app, website, or digital wallets.
It apologized to the impacted people on Facebook and suggested that they purchase their tickets in person until the problem was fixed.
If this is connected to the worldwide IT outage, it is unclear.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has reported that its ticketing and complaints systems were impacted by the system outage as well- FMT
