MALAYSIA – To promote the nation’s tourism arrival targets, Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAG) and Tourism Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a three-year cooperation.
At the signing event in Kuala Lumpur, Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, the chief executive officer of MAG Airlines, stated, “We look forward to working with Tourism Malaysia, leveraging our strengths as a national carrier and aviation hub to pursue sustainable traffic growth in an increasingly competitive landscape.”
Our solid network and history of collaborating with partners on trade and consumer activities put us in a good position to help the country achieve its tourism goals. By showcasing Malaysia as the gateway to Asia and beyond, this cooperation reaffirms MAG’s commitment to advancing the objectives of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), the speaker continued.
According to Luqman, the Memorandum of Understanding would facilitate the creation and execution of a three-year collaborative initiative in significant global markets, encompassing not only the leisure passenger sector but also meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) as well as transit passengers.
The alliance will also serve as the cornerstone for Malaysia Airlines’ Bonus Side Trip (BST) service, which offers customers a free journey to a domestic location within the airline’s network.
Under its Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) initiative, Tourism Malaysia Director-General Manoharan Periasamy stated that the nation hopes to receive 35.6 million visitors and generate target receipts of RM147.1 billion.
Malaysia plans to generate RM102.7 billion in tourist earnings this year alone by drawing in 27.3 million visitors.
“More collaborative initiatives are in the works, encompassing familiarization tours to Malaysia, marketing and promotional campaigns, and advertising campaigns to showcase Malaysia as a top travel destination worldwide,” he stated.
