KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian YouTuber Changyong, who has more than one million subscribers, has been appointed Tainan Tourism Ambassador 2026 as the historic southern Taiwan city looks to strengthen its appeal among Malaysian travellers.
The appointment follows Changyong’s recent visit to Tainan, where he explored the city’s culinary traditions, heritage neighbourhoods, night markets, temples, nature attractions and everyday local experiences through his characteristically warm and humorous storytelling.
The collaboration aims to introduce Malaysian audiences to a different side of Tainan, encouraging travellers to move beyond conventional sightseeing and experience the city through its food, culture, local communities and slower-paced lifestyle.
Tainan City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau Director-General Lin Kuo-hua said Malaysian travellers were increasingly seeking more immersive and themed travel experiences, making Tainan a suitable destination for those looking to explore beyond well-known landmarks.
“Through Changyong’s personal experiences and storytelling, we hope more Malaysian travellers will discover Tainan’s local flavours, historic neighbourhoods, night markets and vibrant cultural heritage, while experiencing the city at their own pace,” Lin said.
Discovering Tainan Through Food
Food formed a major part of Changyong’s journey, with the YouTuber exploring traditional eateries, markets and neighbourhood food spots while sampling some of Tainan’s long-established local dishes.
Among the experiences featured was Tainan’s Squid Rice Noodle Soup, giving viewers an opportunity to discover the city’s culinary culture through the people and traditions behind its food.
Tainan is widely recognised for its distinctive food heritage, with generations-old eateries, street food stalls, traditional markets and restaurants offering a broad range of local specialities.
For Malaysian visitors, the emphasis on food and community also offers a familiar connection, with both destinations sharing food cultures that are closely linked to everyday life and social interaction.
Exploring Tainan Beyond Its Famous Attractions
Changyong’s journey also highlights Tainan’s everyday character, from its traditional neighbourhoods and creative markets to independent shops and heritage buildings.
Visitors can explore the city at a more relaxed pace, including discovering vintage establishments, wandering through older streets and experiencing Tainan from different perspectives through activities such as canal cruises.
The city’s temples also remain an important part of its cultural landscape, with centuries-old architecture and traditions continuing to play a role in local community life.
As evening arrives, Tainan offers another side of its personality through its night markets. Changyong’s visit to Wusheng Night Market showcased the atmosphere, local snacks and bustling environment that make Taiwan’s night-market culture a popular experience among visitors.
A Malaysian Perspective on Tainan
As Tainan Tourism Ambassador, Changyong brings a perspective that is particularly relevant to Malaysian audiences, with his travel content focusing on accessible experiences rather than simply visiting major tourist landmarks.
His Tainan travel series gives his more than one million subscribers an opportunity to discover the city through food, neighbourhood exploration, cultural experiences and interactions with local communities.
The series is now available through Changyong’s official social media channels.
With its combination of culinary traditions, heritage streets, temples, markets and local experiences, Tainan is positioning itself as a destination for Malaysian travellers seeking a more relaxed way to discover Taiwan.
For Malaysians planning their next visit to Taiwan, the city offers an opportunity to head south and experience a different side of the island.
