Melaka trishaws to undergo digital transformation, elevate service standards

MELAKA: To improve service and management standards and give each of these tourism ambassadors a distinct personality, all Melaka trishaws will go through a digital metamorphosis.

According to a statement from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, licensed trishaws would be given unique identification numbers and QR codes to protect the safety of both riders and passengers.

According to him, this change also simplifies the process for travellers and passengers to voice grievances or recommendations for ongoing service enhancement.

“I do not doubt that this new approach will assist the state government in reducing the number of illegal trishaws, often known as “Ali Baba,” that frequently show up during extended vacation times.

At the 2025 Melaka Trishaw Riders Appreciation Ceremony held here on Wednesday (January 1), he stated, “The initiative will be implemented under the Budget 2025 by gazetting By-Laws for Trishaw Riders through the Melaka Historic City Council, making it one of the first local authorities in Malaysia to implement such measures.”

Ab Rauf went on to say that new rules, such as authorized operative zones or pit breaks, would be implemented to simplify the administration of licensed trishaws.

“There will be five zones: Menara Taming Sari, Medan Samudera, Stadthuys Building, Melaka Historical Vehicle Park, and Dataran Sungai Melaka.

“Every three months, licensed trishaws will move between these zones, enabling authorities to efficiently monitor their operations,” he stated.
