PENANG, March 1– Penang is set to welcome its first Wyndham-branded hotel following a landmark collaboration between GIC Group and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. The partnership, formalised at a signing ceremony today, marks a major step in Penang’s expanding hospitality landscape and reflects confidence in the state’s tourism and investment potential.
The ceremony drew senior executives, industry leaders, government representatives, and media, including Tourism Malaysia Deputy Chairman Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin and YB Dato’ Muhammad Bakhtiar bin Wan Chik, who highlighted the strategic importance of the project. Witnessing the signing, Datuk Eddie Song, Founder and Director of GIC Group, said the collaboration represents a significant milestone for the company, which is growing from its property marketing roots into hospitality and entertainment development.
“Partnering with Wyndham allows us to bring an internationally recognised standard of hospitality to Penang while contributing to the local economy and community,” Datuk Eddie Song said. “This is our second hotel management project, and we look forward to building a long-term partnership with Wyndham as we move forward together.”
Bayan Suite – Wyndham Garden Penang World City, currently under construction, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with operations expected to start in 2028. The 408-key development will feature studio units, two-bedroom suites, and three-bedroom suites designed to cater to business, leisure, and family travellers, combining comfort and professional hotel management under an internationally recognised brand.

Dato’ Yeoh said the arrival of Wyndham Garden in Penang comes at an opportune time as visitor numbers recover and demand grows for internationally branded hospitality offerings. “The entry of the Wyndham Garden brand is both timely and significant,” he noted. “Projects like this strengthen tourism infrastructure, create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and enhance visitor experiences, contributing meaningfully to Penang’s position as a competitive regional destination.”
Under the partnership, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts will oversee hotel management operations, leveraging its global network, operational expertise, and brand standards, while GIC Group brings local market insight and development experience. Together, the collaboration is designed to elevate Penang’s hospitality offerings and attract higher-value travellers to the state.
The signing ceremony concluded with a commemorative photo session and networking event attended by VIPs, stakeholders, and media, marking the start of a partnership both parties hope will set a new benchmark for hospitality development in Penang.
