Maldives Joins Hands with Liverpool FC to Encourage International Tourism

Malé, 17 March 2025 ( Travel And Tour World) – The Maldives has inked a strategic agreement with Liverpool Football Club (LFC), designating the island nation as the Official Tourist Destination Partner of the English Premier League football club.

The announcement, made by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), will further position the country as one of the top international tourism hubs.

Tourism Growth and Economic Gain

The partnership is anticipated to attract 100,000 tourists to the Maldives in 2025, generating around $100 million in revenue. Riding on Liverpool FC’s extensive global fan base, Visit Maldives aims to enhance its brand image and raise awareness in its focus tourism markets, particularly in Europe.

This is a significant milestone in our efforts to promote the Maldives as a top tourist destination,” an MMPRC spokesperson said. “Liverpool FC has a massive global fan base, and with this agreement, we look forward to encouraging football fans worldwide to visit our beautiful islands.’

The partnership will be formally launched on April 2, 2025, at Liverpool’s Premier League match against Everton. As per the agreement, Visit Maldives branding will be featured prominently on LED signage at Anfield Stadium for home games.

Additional promotional activities include:

– Brand activation activities at Anfield.

– Digital marketing campaigns across Liverpool FC’s platforms.

– Billboard promotion in European capital cities to attract high-income tourists.

Sports Tourism and Future Developments Aside from promotional campaigns, the Maldives is also contemplating establishing a Liverpool FC Academy, which will promote local football development and enhance the country’s status in sports tourism.

The Maldives, historically renowned for its luxury resorts and pristine beaches, has been expanding its tourism business to accommodate a wide range of tourists. The tie-up with Liverpool FC will be hoped to drive record visitor numbers and establish the nation as a top-of-the-range global holiday destination.
