Bali is seeing a new era in health and tourism with the upcoming opening of Bali International Hospital in Sanur. Recently, Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara visited a series of sacred rituals at temples close to the location of the new hospital. The rituals, which took place on Bali’s sacred Kadasa full moon, were conducted to bless the hospital and wish it success in the future.
Speaking later in response to the ceremonies, Mayor Jaya Negara said he hoped the new medical center would become the best in Asia, or even in the world. He said it was important to bring Balinese culture and spirituality into the hospital environment, and that having temples around the area and following cultural ceremonies would help bring balance to healthcare workers as well as patients.
Speaking on behalf of the Bali International Hospital Management Team, Muhamad Sonny Irawan explained the ceremonies were intended to invoke blessings for both the physical and spiritual worlds, which the locals refer to as sekala and niskala. The traditional ceremonies, he said, represent prayers for prosperity, safety, and success of the hospital, its employees, and all the patients who will be treated at the facility.
Located in the centre of Sanur, Bali International Hospital will be one of the premier medical tourism spots in Asia. The private hospital will serve both foreign medical tourists and Indonesian patients who have gone overseas for treatment in the past. The hospital will provide quality services while putting Bali on the medical map as a centre of medical excellence.
The cutting-edge hospital will include specialist medical departments such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, hepatology, and orthopaedics. It will also have complete women’s and children’s health clinics, maternity ward, travel medicine, vaccination services, and Bali’s first independent mammogram suite. The hospital will have a total of 255 beds, 38 intensive care units, 8 operating theatres, and 4 catheterization laboratories.
Construction completed, the hospital is now in the last phase of operational readiness. It will soft open on mid-April 2025, and patients are already reserving health screening packages via the official Bali International Hospital website. The packages, which are priced from IDR 3,400,000, include results within 24 hours and will be one of the most sought-after services provided.
Among the signature services offered is the Pearl Screening package, a luxury cancer screening package for women. The program focuses on the early detection of breast, ovarian, and gastrointestinal cancers using the most advanced diagnostic equipment. The patient obtains a detailed health report and specialist consultation within three days, introducing a new level of medical service to Bali’s popular, family-oriented Sanur resort district.
