Celebrity Chef Martin Yan Celebrates Penang’s Culinary Charm at St Giles Wembley Hi-Tea

GEORGE TOWN, May 23 — In a heartwarming afternoon filled with flavor and flair, internationally renowned celebrity chef Martin Yan captivated guests during an exclusive hi-tea event hosted by the St Giles Wembley Hotel, Penang.

The special gathering provided guests with a rare opportunity to meet the culinary icon in person. Known globally for his television presence spanning over four decades, Chef Yan shared his deep affection for Penang’s cultural vibrancy and culinary excellence.

“I’ve visited Penang many times, and I absolutely love the city,” he said during his speech. “The people are full of life, the food is world-famous, and yes—I even enjoy Penang durians! I’ve often thought about retiring here. I will continue to promote Penang and Malaysia to my American audience so they too can experience the hospitality and richness of this destination.”

The elegant event was hosted by St Giles Wembley’s General Manager, Dato’ Tony Goh, along with his dedicated team. Distinguished guests in attendance included Madam Tan Lean Kee, wife of the Penang Chief Minister; Penang Global Tourism CEO Ooi Chok Yan; and the hotel’s Executive Chef Adrian Lim.

Chef Yan, celebrated for his engaging personality and commitment to culinary education, emphasized his lifelong mission of connecting people through food. “My goal has always been to inspire and inform,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to be on television for 48 years, and it’s always about sharing knowledge and culture.”

Adding a special touch to the event, the chef presented each female guest with a rose—a gesture warmly received and widely appreciated. He also showcased his signature kitchen knife and introduced his latest cookbook to the audience.

Chef Yan is set to continue his promotional tour in George Town, with further appearances planned to connect with fans, aspiring chefs, and food lovers alike.

As Penang continues to emerge as a global gastronomic destination, high-profile engagements such as this further underscore its status on the international culinary map.
