Abang Jo: Talks on idle public healthcare, school construction projects still ongoing

MALAYSIA-

Premier of Sarawak Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg stated today that conversations between federal and state officials are ongoing to determine which projects about schools and health facilities the state government will build.

He stated that these projects, which include abandoned clinics and school facilities, have been agreed upon by the federal and state governments to be taken over by the former.

During his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on the second day, he told reporters, “We need to finish the construction of these buildings with state funds.”

According to him, the secretaries-general of the health and education ministries, as well as Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohammed Abu Bakar Marzuki, are co-chairing a working committee that is examining the process by which the federal government will pay the state government back after construction is finished.

“We need to look into how we can reimburse the state government for using our own money to finish the construction work because health and education are still the purview of the federal government,” he stated.

He stated that for the benefit of the populace as well as the comfort of medical personnel, educators, and pupils, the construction of the school buildings and health facilities, including the staff quarters, must be accelerated.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for working with the state administration to first use our finances to create these school buildings and health facilities.
