Eight million tourists targeted for Visit Selangor 2025 is Achievable, says state tourism exco member

SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 – The target of attracting eight million tourists to Selangor in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) is within reach, said State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Ng Suee Lim.

Ng said as of June this year, Selangor had already recorded 4.14 million tourist arrivals, equivalent to 52 per cent of the set target.

He added that the Visit Selangor Year initiative will likely be extended into next year under a different theme, such as “Selangor Kan Ada”, to align with national efforts for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

“Selangor has strong tourism potential, and we are confident of achieving our target through continuous promotions and the introduction of new attractions,” he said during the 88th Anniversary Luncheon of SKGV Charity Home held at Chin Woo Stadium on Sunday.

Ng also highlighted the state’s efforts to promote local delicacies as heritage foods to further strengthen Selangor’s tourism appeal.

“We are proposing popular local dishes such as Klang bak kut teh, Hokkien mee, and chai kuih (Teochew chives dumplings) to be recognised as heritage foods,” he said.

He noted that while bak kut teh is widely known, other traditional dishes like Klang Hokkien mee deserve greater recognition.

“Traditional food is a key component in attracting tourists. I hope the traditional dishes of all communities can be listed as heritage foods,” he said, adding that Kajang satay was recently declared a heritage food.
