Dutch Transavia Airlines launches Amsterdam-Tbilisi flights

The United Airports of Georgia said on Sunday that the low-cost airline Transavia, based in the Netherlands, will begin offering direct flights from April to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. This information is cited by Agenda in Azernews.

The firm that runs the airports in Tbilisi and Batumi, TAV Georgia, reported that on its inaugural trip from the Netherlands, 187 people arrived in the capital of Georgia and 185 left for Amsterdam.

Transavia said that it will use a Boeing 737-8 to conduct flights twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, during the summer navigation season.

Tea Zakaradze, the general manager of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, Meline Arakelian, the Dutch ambassador to Georgia, Marcel de Nooijer, the CEO of Transavia, and representatives of the Georgian aviation authorities were present at the official event commemorating the first flight, which was held at Tbilisi International Airport.

Irakli Karkashadze, the Director of UAG, was quoted by the publication as stating that the “long-lasting negotiation process” led to the introduction of direct flights to Amsterdam. He pointed out that the initial planes’ full complement of seats sold out, indicating a “very high demand” for the flight.

Nine million passengers are carried annually by Transavia, the second-largest airline in the Netherlands, which has been flying for 50 years from the nation to more than 100 destinations in more than 20 countries.
