MALAYSIA-
This year, Thailand is preparing for a three-week Songkran celebration that is predicted to
generate tens of billions of baht in income, greatly enhancing the nation’s tourism industry.
Since Songkran is now recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,
celebrations are scheduled from April 1–21 in several popular locations, including Bangkok,
Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya.
There is a great deal of optimism over a rise in Chiang Mai tourism, driven by a vigorous
marketing push. With aspirations for hotel booking rates to reach 65-70% between April 12 and
16 and an average occupancy rate of 55-60% for the entire month, the city is getting ready for
a longer festival season than usual.
Also, Pattaya is anticipating its own “Wan Lai” festival, which begins on April 19. The festival
offers water fights, DJ sets, and live bands, fusing traditional ethnic customs with
contemporary entertainment.
Extensive security measures have been implemented to guarantee the protection of travelers,
and hotel reservations have surged dramatically, especially from Chinese visitors. From April 13
to 15, Khao San Road in Bangkok will host Songkran celebrations that are expected to draw
100,000 people, allowing events to continue until 9 p.m.
To attract foreign visitors, responsible government units have been directed to keep advertising
the prolonged festival and to maintain open lines of communication about the events’ timetable.
Numerous tourists are anticipated in Phuket for the “Songkran Water Music Festival on the
Beach 2024″ and other cultural activities; hotel reservations are already over 80% full.
Over 264,350 tourists are anticipated, bringing in about 7.04 billion baht for the island province.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) projects that the forthcoming Songkran holiday will
bring in 52.5 billion baht in total income for the country, a significant rise above the data from
the previous year.
The main goal of the central administration is to make sure that visitors are provided with
correct information about the nationwide festivities of this festival and to improve the overall
experience for all attendees.
