Tourism Malaysia aims for RM88bil receipts in 2024

In honour of its 50th anniversary, the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) hosted a domestic tourist expo called “Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia.”

One hundred fifty hotels, resorts, and other travel attractions nationwide were among the exhibitors at the two-day event held at the Pavilion Bukit Jalil Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Organizing chairman and MAH vice-president Datuk Khoo Boo Lim stated during the opening ceremony that the goal of the tourism fair is to “make luxury stays more accessible to the Malaysian public by providing a platform where locals can discover the best hotels, resorts and travel products for their next staycation.”

According to him, the occasion also sought to support domestic travel and guarantee that Malaysians would continue to be able to afford and use the local tourism sector.

Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, the deputy chairman of Tourism Malaysia, was also present and gave a presentation on the country’s many travel attractions for domestic tourists.

“We want to reach RM88bil in revenue by 2024.

Yeoh continued, “As of this year’s first quarter, we have already achieved 25% of our target.”

The event, which was also sponsored by Tourism Malaysia, included several vendor promotions for locations including Johor Baru, Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, and Alor Setar in Kedah.

A multicultural percussion performance using traditional instruments like the Chinese shigu, Indian dhol, and Malay gendang added colour to the gathering.

After the opening ceremony, Khoo sang Cliff Richard’s Summer Holiday and Rod Stewart’s I Don’t Want To Talk About It with Musicians for Musicians Malaysia.

There will be further tourism fairs organized by MAH in September, such as a fun run in Port Dickson and Bazaar Cuti-Cuti Malaysia in Penang – The Star
