GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysia Gold & Jewellery Trade Exhibition (MGJE) 2026 will return to Penang next month with a stronger focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and the launch of a new Southeast Asian gold trading platform.
The three-day event, to be held from May 8 to 10 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, is expected to draw more than 150 exhibitors and buyers from over 30 countries, reinforcing its position as a growing international trade platform.
Organised by the Province Wellesley Gold & Silver Ornament Merchants Association and co-organised by the Malaysia Gold Association, the exhibition is supported by the Penang state government as well as the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation.

Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the exhibition has evolved into a globally recognised platform encompassing the entire gold and jewellery supply chain — from raw materials and machinery to finished products and packaging.
“MGJE serves as a direct bridge between suppliers and buyers, accelerating transactions, strengthening partnerships and delivering tangible commercial outcomes,” he said at a press conference on Friday (April 10).
He noted that global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions are reshaping the gold trade landscape, creating both challenges and opportunities for industry players.
Citing disruptions to Middle Eastern logistics hubs, Wong said Malaysia’s gold industry must capitalise on shifting supply chains by expanding market reach and strengthening its regional position.
“In times of global uncertainty, gold remains a safe-haven asset. This is a critical moment for Malaysia’s industry players to move up the value chain and capture new growth,” he added.
Wong said Penang is well-positioned to benefit from these changes, citing its strong infrastructure, industrial ecosystem and growing reputation as a business events hub.

Meanwhile, Ashwin Gunasekeran said MGJE 2026 marks a key milestone in the exhibition’s growth, highlighting its transformation from the earlier PWGS Trade Fair into an internationally recognised event.
“This makes it one of the most internationally diverse jewellery trade exhibitions in the region and a testament to the global industry’s confidence in Penang as a premier business events destination,” he said.
A key highlight of this year’s edition is the introduction of the “Gold Pavilion”, a Southeast Asia gold trading platform designed to connect manufacturers and buyers across the region and beyond.
Unlike conventional trade fairs, the platform will function as a year-round ecosystem, enabling continuous business engagement and long-term growth opportunities.
The exhibition will also spotlight AI-driven innovation through a dedicated jewellery design showcase, demonstrating how technology can streamline the process from concept to final product while improving efficiency and reducing costs.

PWGS president Poon Wai Kit said the latest initiatives signal a shift beyond traditional exhibitions.
“MGJE is no longer just an exhibition, it is a platform that integrates trade, technology and long-term industry growth,” he said.
Visitors can also look forward to a jewellery fashion show, interactive activities and promotional campaigns, including a lucky draw offering prizes such as discounts, gold items and gifts.
Industry players, designers and members of the public are invited to attend the exhibition, which continues to position Penang as a key gateway for regional and international trade in the gold and jewellery sector.
